The ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) kicked off in Baku with the Foreign Minister of Iran's attendance.

Iran Press/Asia: The meeting of the foreign ministers, which will last until Oct. 24, is taking place in anticipation of the 18th Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the NAM members.

Speaking at the meeting,  Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif denounced US economic terrorism against other countries and asked the international community to take a “unified” stance and compel Washington to “reverse its dangerous course”, Iran Press reported.

"There is an urgent need for a unified stance by the international community to compel the US to reverse its dangerous course in order to avert a global catastrophe," Zarif said.

Preparation issues for Baku Summit will be discussed during the meeting.

Azerbaijan has taken over the chairmanship in the meeting of foreign ministers of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) member countries.

"Azerbaijan takes over the chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement this year", said Azerbaijan Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov during his speech at the preparatory meeting.

The 18th Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the Non-Aligned Movement member-states will be held in Baku on Oct. 25-26.

President Hassan Rouhani is scheduled to depart for Baku on Thursday to attend the Summit.

Representatives of 158 countries and international organizations confirmed their participation in the summit. The event will be attended by foreign ministers, heads of state and government and other senior representatives. 101
