Iran’s Minister of Energy, Abbas Aliabadi, stated on Tuesday that close to 5,000 megawatts of power plant capacity—along with significant sections of the distribution grid—have suffered damage as a result of enemy strikes. According to the minister, emergency technical teams have been deployed and repair operations are progressing across the network.
Aliabadi noted that despite the scale of the damage, the country is approaching a “positive balance point” in electricity supply, describing the situation as increasingly encouraging as restoration efforts advance.
Highlighting the impact of public participation, the minister emphasized that energy-saving measures by households can significantly ease pressure on the national grid. He explained that if each of Iran’s 32 million residential subscribers turns off just one 30‑watt lightbulb, the resulting reduction in consumption would equal approximately 1.5 times the output capacity of the Bushehr nuclear power plant.
The Ministry of Energy continues to monitor the situation and coordinate nationwide repair activities as crews work to restore full operational capacity.
