Tehran (IP) - Iranian Vice-President for Science and Technology called the publication of the first pharmacopoeia of Iran's traditional medicines a unique opportunity for investment by the private sector.

Iran PressIran news: Iran initiated the third phase of the 'comprehensive program of food health and originality' and unveiled new achievements of the Food and Drug Administration.

The ceremony was inaugurated on Monday with the attendance of Health Minister Bahram Einollahi and Iranian Vice-President for Science and Technology Sorena Sattari and was accompanied by the unveiling of the new achievements of the Food and Drug Administration, including the pharmacopeia of traditional Iranian medicines, the official pharmacopeia of Iranian chemical drugs and medicine for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma.

In writing the pharmacopeia of traditional Iranian medicines, a combined method has been used, which can be one of the main sources of medicine, its main clinical source of traditional medicine pharmacists and also the reference of many pharmaceutical researches in this field.

Speaking at the ceremony, Sorena Sattari said: "In the new round, we have a special focus on the field of food, and this field has a lot of work to do. For example, halal food is one of the items that should be invested by the private sector. We also pay special attention to innovation in the field of food production."

He added that marine life is one of the areas that has been neglected and this is a huge capacity that needs to be activated by the private sector.

The Iranian vice-president for science and technology pointed to the participation of knowledge-based companies in the production of medicinal plants and said: "For several years we have paid special attention to medicinal plants and its cultivation level has multiplied in recent years."

In the last 8 years, traditional medicine drugs and products have not been recognized by the Ministry of Health, and the publication of the first pharmacopeia of Iranian traditional medicines and products means that these products have been recognized; the move could pave the way for large-scale private sector investment in this field, Sattari concluded.
