The ministry characterized the measures as a continuation of 73 years of entrenched hostility by American policymakers toward the Iranian people and a clear manifestation of the "anti-human, law-breaking, and hegemonic" nature of the U.S. administration.
The statement, released on the anniversary of the 1953 coup d'état (August 19), asserted that the sanctions, which directly target the fundamental human rights of Iranian citizens, constitute "economic terrorism" and "crimes against humanity." It further declared that those who order and implement such measures are liable for prosecution and punishment for their "atrocious crimes."
According to the ministry, the new sanctions come on the heels of '18 months of U.S.-Israeli-imposed warfare against Iran, and the failure of adversarial objectives to force Iran into submission.'
The foreign ministry emphasized that these actions would only add to the "lengthy record of U.S. crimes" against the nation, while not affecting the Iranian people's resolve to safeguard their independence, dignity, and national sovereignty.
The ministry also drew a parallel between economic sanctions and military aggression, arguing that Washington's "pathological addiction" to both instruments not only endangers global peace and security but has also plunged human civilization into an unprecedented moral decline.
It called on all states committed to the UN Charter and the principle of respect for national sovereignty not to remain indifferent to America's persistent violations of fundamental international norms.
According to the ministry, 'the U.S. is repeating a failed policy.' It warned that reattempting such measures would only lead to further embarrassment for the architects and executors of the policy, while reiterating that the United States bears full responsibility for all consequences and implications.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs concluded by strongly condemning the escalation of "illegal and inhumane" sanctions, while affirming the Islamic Republic's firm determination to defend its national security and interests against all military, economic, political, and psychological pressures.
Drawing on seven decades of experience in resisting U.S. pressure, intervention, military aggression, and state terrorism, Iran vowed to utilize all available capabilities and tools to counter "U.S.-Israeli malice" and protect its national interests.
