The meeting, held on Thursday morning, August 20, involved members of the Iranian parliamentary delegation. Accompanying Speaker Qalibaf were Mohammad-Taqi Naqdali, head of the Iran-Iraq Parliamentary Friendship Group; Mehdi Fallah, vice-chair of the group; Shahin Jahangiri, a member of the group; and Sara Fallahi, a member of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission.
This visit is part of a broader effort by Tehran and Baghdad to strengthen cooperation across various sectors, including politics, security, and the economy. As neighboring countries with deep historical, cultural, and religious ties, Iran and Iraq have increasingly sought to formalize their cooperation through parliamentary diplomacy and legal frameworks.
By engaging with the Supreme Judicial Council, the Iranian delegation aims to establish more robust mechanisms for legal collaboration, which officials believe is essential for facilitating trade, security cooperation, and the resolution of cross-border issues.
This visit follows a series of high-level exchanges intended to align the legislative and judicial priorities of both countries, further cementing their strategic partnership in the region.
