Khuzestan (IP) - Sesame, one of the strategic agricultural products in Khuzestan Province, southwest of Iran, is now being harvested in the area.

Iran PressIran News: Behbahan, Hamidiyeh, Dasht-e Azadegan, Ramhormoz, Shoosh, Shooshtar, Shadegan, and Hoveyzeh cities in Khuzestan Province have the largest share in sesame cultivation. 

The harvest of the strategic crop usually starts from mid-October and continues until the end of November.

About 16.5 k hectares of farms in Khuzestan Province are under cultivation of sesame crop and it is predicted that 14,000 tons of sesame will be harvested this year.

Khuzestan Province is one of the important centers of production of various agricultural products in Iran due to climatic conditions.

Sesame is an oilseed that is used in cooking industries, including the extraction of edible oils, as well as making various sweets.
