File Photo: Clashes in province of Abyan, southern Yemen

On the fourth day of clashes with the forces of the resigned Yemeni government in the province of Abyan, in the south of the country, the forces of the Southern Transitional Council captured a senior commander of these forces and four of his companions.

Iran Press/Middle East: A Yemeni military official said the forces of the Southern Transitional Council captured Brigadier General Saif al-Qafish, commander of the 115th Infantry Battalion, and four of his entourage during clashes in the eastern city of Zinjibar, the capital of Abyan province.

As Sputnik reported, at the field level, the resigned Yemeni government army once again took control of the barracks of the forces affiliated with the Southern Transitional Council in the al-Tariya area northeast of Zinjibar;

The barracks were recaptured by the Transitional Council yesterday.

The South Yemeni Transitional Council has declared autonomy and state of emergency in the southern provinces of Yemen since April 25, and the clashes between the resigned government and the Transitional Council has intensified.

The United Nations has called on the relevant parties in Yemen to stop fighting in Abyan province.
