Tehran's interim Friday Prayers Leader said that Britain will soon be “slapped in the face” for its illegal seizure of an Iranian supertanker last week in the strait of Gibraltar.

Iran Press/Iran news: Addressing a huge crowd of the faithful and worshippers, the Friday Prayers leader, Ayatollah Kazem Sedighi said: "Iran’s strong establishment will soon slap Britain in the face for daring to seize the Iranian oil tanker".

Earlier Iran called on Britain to immediately release the impounded oil tanker that British Marines had seized on 4 July. Britain and Gibraltar have tried to justify this lawless act by claiming the action was meant to enforce the EU’s sanctions regime against Syria.

Tehran's interim Friday Prayers Leader said that Europeans obey the US in practice.

Ayatollah Sedighi added"More than a year since the US withdrew from the nuclear deal, not only have the Europeans not been able to fulfil their obligations but also they have in practice become obedient to the US."

Referring to the remarks of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution that “if they tear up the JCPOA, we will set it on fire”, the Prayers leader said that “it was not necessary to give a 60-day ultimatum to the Europeans.”

“Iranian officials unanimously believe that we should scale down our JCPOA obligations,” he added.

On 8 May 2018, US President Donald Trump withdrew from the Iran nuclear deal or Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), and immediately re-imposed unilateral sanctions against Iran.

After the US exit, EU signatory countries to JCPOA vowed to keep alive the agreement and promised to set up a special mechanism for trade with Iran, called INSTEX, to bypass US sanctions. The Europeans also agreed that Tehran should benefit from JCPOA, and that Iran's basic rights according to 2015 Deal should be respected, but in practice the three European countries ( E3 ) have failed to secure Iran's interests and protect Iran from US sanctions.
