Iran Press/ Iran news: The incident of September 8, 1978, known as "Black Friday", which is also referred to in historical sources as the "September 8 massacre", was an event during the formation of the Islamic Revolution of Iran. This massacre ultimately paved the way for the fall of the dictatorial and dependent Pahlavi regime in 1979.
The killing of hundreds of defenseless people on September 8, 1978, by the agents of the Pahlavi regime in Tehran's Martyrs Square (formerly known as Jaleh Square) increased the hatred of the people against this regime, and the protests and strikes of then-government employees spread.
Imam Khomeini, the great founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, after the tragedy of September 8, condoled the revolutionary people of Iran and promised them victory in two messages.
The massacre of the people of Tehran on September 8 and the continuation of the military curfew, shook the cohesion and will of the Pahlavi regime's army. On the contrary, it made the will of the Iranian people more firm and determined for the fall of the Pahlavi regime.
Finally, with the continuation of the right-seeking struggles of the Iranian people, the Pahlavi regime fell in February 1979, about five months after the historic uprising of September 8.
The anniversary of the uprising of September 8 is held and the memory of the martyrs of the Islamic Revolution is honored every year in Iran.
