Mao Ning, the spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, said at a press conference: "An agreement has been reached for Belarus, Bolivia, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Thailand, Uganda and Uzbekistan to join BRICS, and the process of joining these countries will begin."
Referring to the agreement of BRICS leaders at their recent meeting on the establishment of a BRICS partner mechanism, the spokesman said: "This decision is another milestone in cooperation among BRICS member countries."
The diplomat stated that the presence of partner countries in BRICS will elevate cooperation to a new level, saying: "Therefore, BRICS will represent more countries and become a platform for promoting solidarity and cooperation among countries of the global South."
The spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry said: "Beijing remains committed to strengthening cooperation with BRICS members and partners."
