The breakup of the Syrian state will become a major challenge for the Middle East and trigger serious consequences for the global community, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.

Iran PressEurope: "We proceed from the premise that Syria’s breakup would be a serious challenge for its neighboring countries and the Middle Eastern region in general with long-term consequences surpassing its borders. This must be prevented," she noted.

Zakharova also highlighted the fact that the Middle East has turned into "the concentration of a large amount of corrupt interests and ambitions" of Western countries with their negative consequences being "hard to even compare to anything."

The diplomat stressed that Russia supports preserving the unity and territorial integrity of the Syrian state. "We are calling on all responsible members of the international community to invariably follow this approach," she concluded.
