Iranian Foreign Minister said that his country will not forget the role of Western countries in supporting former Iraqi dictator in the Iran-Iraq war.

Iran Press/Iran news: "On June 28, we commemorate the horrific chemical attack on our civilians in Sardasht, Iran. We'll never forget that Western world supported & armed Saddam--even with chemical weapons," Mohammad Javad Zarif said in a tweet on Saturday.

Iranian Foreign Minister noted that "Security Council never condemned his gassing of our people," Iran Press reported.

"We persevered then, and will now," he added referring to the brutal US pressure against Iran.

Earlier on Friday, in a message released at a ceremony to mark the 32nd anniversary of Saddam Hussein’s bombing of Sardasht in West Azarbaijan province of Iran in 1987, Zarif strongly criticized Washington’s unilateral sanctions, saying the US economic terrorism is against international humanitarian law.

He also referred to the US arsenal of undestroyed chemical weapons, and accused it of dodging its obligations under existing conventions.

On 28 and 29 June 1987, Iraqi bombers attacked four crowded districts of Sardasht with chemical bombs which engulfed its residents, women and children, young and old, bringing death on a grand scale.

The chemical attack on Sardasht left at least 110 people killed, and 5,000 others injured, many receiving serious life-threatening injuries.

Germany, Italy, the UK, the US, the Netherlands and several other countries provided the Iraqi dictator with the equipment and material to build chemical weapons apparently because they didn’t want Iran to be the winner of the eight-year war.101
