A source inside Iran’s Expediency Discernment Council (EDC) rejected some media reports that Grand Ayatollah Sayyed Mohammad Shahroudi has passed away.

Iran Press/Iran news: The source said on Monday that the health condition of the head of Iran’s Expediency Discernment Council has turned worse and he is in the intensive care unit of a hospital.

Meanwhile, head of Khatamolanbia Hospital, Pir Hossein Koulivand dismissed the news regarding death of Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi and said he is in coma and hospitalized in intensive critical unit (ICU), Iran Press reported.

Born on August, 15, 1948, the influential Iranian cleric is the head of the Assembly of Experts since 14 August 2017.

He has not attended Expediency Council's sessions since mid-summer and EDC Secretary, as recommended by doctors.

Ayatollah Sayyed Mohammad Shahroudi was elected as the member of guardian council in 1995. Then he was appointed the head of the Judiciary in 1991. 101
