Iranian and Russian foreign ministers held phone talks Wednesday to discuss recent developments in Syria.

Iran news: Mohammad Javad Zarif and Sergey Lavrov reiterated settlement of Syrian crisis through political means and explored avenues for enforcing it, Iran Press reported.

Earlier on November 28, a senior adviser to Iranian Foreign Minister for political affairs Hossein Jaberi Ansari met UN special envoy for Syria, Staffan de Mistura in Astana capital city of Kazakhstan.

Also, senior officials from Iran, Russia and Turkey are meeting at the 11th round of the Astana peace talks in the Kazakh capital as part of efforts to find a permanent political solution to settle the Syrian crisis.

Conflicts erupted in Syria back in 2011, when a small group of opposition forces took up arms against Damascus.

More than 330,000 people have been killed in Syria and millions have been driven from their homes since the conflict began in March 2011, and the infrastructure of the country destroyed.

About 1.2 million Syrian refugees have returned to their homes. 103
