UK Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt arrived in Tehran on Monday to hold talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif about the 2015 nuclear agreement.

Iran Press/Iran news: British Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt office said in a statement that he visits Iran for the first time for talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on issues such as the future of the 2015 nuclear deal.

According to Iran Press, He will meet with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif today and the secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani.

Iranian Foreign Minister and Jeremy Hunt previously talked over the phone on November 5, where the UK foreign secretary emphasized the commitment of his country and other parties of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) to the nuclear agreement.

On Oct. 14, British Ambassador to Iran, Rob Macaire said compliance with the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) as an international agreement is the basis of 'our relations with Iran'.

Rob Macaire also said on Oct. 10, that as an ambassador of a European state he is committed to promote economic ties under the 2015 nuclear deal, as Europeans are creating a banking system for solving communicative issues with Iran.

London's commitment to the JCPOA has naturally had some political costs and consequences for it but Britain and other parties to the deal would continue to support it because they believe that they should remain committed to what they have signed.

Also on September 26, Iranian president Hassan Rouhani in his meeting with British prime minister Theresa May said the illegal withdrawal of the United States from JCPOA has dismayed and angered the international community.

After US’s unilateral withdrawal from the JCPOA, UK stressed keeping JCPOA alive, helping Iran renovate the Arak reactor facility.

US President Donald Trump withdrew Washington from the nuclear agreement in May and reintroduced the first round of sanctions on Iran in August.

The second round of sanctions, including against the Iranian oil industry, came into effect on November 5. 101/201
