Iran Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif twitted that US President Donald Trump administration's description of Iran’s regional role is truly comical.

Iran press/Iran: Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has posted a tweet calling the US President Donald Trump administration's description of Iran’s regional role “truly comical,” outlining that while accusing Tehran of using its' resources to finance terrorism in other countries, the White House is now suggesting that Iran isn’t putting enough money toward financial aid for Palestine.

Iranian Foreign Minister also criticized US administration for its' inconsistent behavior.

The foreign minister’s reaction came after US State Secretary Mike Pompeo claimed that Iran does not do enough to support Palestine.

In Sep. 01, US State Department said in a statement: “The United States will no longer commit further funding to this irredeemably flawed operation,” adding it was not willing to “shoulder the very disproportionate share of the burden” for the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA).

The cuts came as a part of a Trump rethink of US assistance to Palestinians, begun earlier this year.

As a result, over $200 million has been redirected from Palestinian economic support in the West Bank and Gaza.

In Aug. 25, The United States said it had cancelled more than $200m in aid for the Palestinians in the blockaded Gaza Strip and occupied West Bank, leading their ambassador to accuse Donald Trump’s administration of being “anti-peace.”

Meanwhile, the Palestinian foreign ministry said: “This dangerous and unjustified American escalation has crossed all red lines and is considered a direct aggression against the Palestinian people”.

Relations between the US administration and the Palestinian Authority took a nosedive after Donald Trump announced US recognises the city of al-Quds / Jerusalem as the capital of the Israeli regime.

The Palestinians have suspended contacts with the administration and consider that it can no longer play a mediation role in the Middle East peace process.
