Chief of General Staff of Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Bagheri called on Iranian army to defend the country’s security.

Chief of General Staff of Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Bagheri on Sunday in a meeting in Tehran attended by senior military officials called on all walks of Iranian nation, especially the armed forces to support the Islamic Establishment and defend the country’s security.

Chief of General Staff of Iranian Armed Forces Major added that the enemy's behavior is unpredictable and the Islamic Republic of Iran is under the harshest sanctions, threats and pressures, .

“Although the current ruthless US administration does not militarily threaten Iran in public, there is credible information that it has been attempting to force US Army to conduct attacks [against Iranian positions] over the past year and a half, and this has been publicly acknowledged by the American authorities so far,” Major General Mohammad Hossein Bagheri said.

Major General Bagheri continued "what happens in the future is not predictable at all. What is clear is that the enemy is for the most part targeting the country’s economy through creating economic problems, but there could be a variety of threats and scenarios [against us].”

Chief of General Staff of Iranian Armed Forces Major General also praised the Iranian people for their support for their government, stressing that the support will continue as the establishment is based on people’s will.

Meanwhile, Iranian Army Ground Forces Commander Brigadier General Kiumars Heidari supported President Rouhani’s threat to close the Strait of Hormuz, saying that Iranian armed forces have warned about it for years.

Brigadier General Kiumars Heidari said "the president’s warning is not a new warning and our nation and armed forces have been warning about this for years. I would like to repeat that again the Strait of Hormuz must either be open or closed for all."

Earlier, and on a trip to Europe, Rouhani had said that if Iran is made incapable of selling its oil, so will other countries in the region — a relatively implicit statement that has been taken to mean that Iran may block its waters in the Strait of Hormuz, through which many international oil cargoes pass.

On Sunday, he repeated that threat — this time unambiguously.

“No one with even a basic understanding of politics will ever say, ‘We will block Iran’s oil exports,’” President Rouhani said, reminding America that, “We have many straits; the Strait of Hormuz is but one.”
