A conservative Iranian politician, an MP representing Hamedan Province in the Parliament (Majlis) says: "Shanghai summit is a good opportunity to defend the JCPOA".

In an exclusive interview with Iran Press on Wednesday, Mohammad Mehdi Mofatteh added: Iranian President should defend Iran's innocence at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit, setting out Iran's adherence and commitment to the nuclear agreement, in sharp contrast to America's unlawful, illogical, unjustifiable withdrawal from the agreement.  and .

Mofatteh also said Iran must use active diplomacy to achieve its aims. He added:  "We must interact and engage with the international community , and also we must clear up any misunderstandings in relation to Iran".

The conservative Iranian MP added:  "President Rouhani needs to set out a strong case against America reneging on its international obligations and commitments, using diplomatic language to condemn the Americans and convey  Iran's message to world leaders who will be gathering at the SCO summit".

In further comments Mofatteh said: "We must rely on our own abilities and resources, we are a powerful country with a strong economy, we have a well-educated and well-trained workforce,   and we need to develop our economy further".

China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan established the SCO, a Eurasian political, economic, and security grouping, in the early 2000s. India and Pakistan joined in 2017, and Iran has expressed hopes of joining.
