In a Sat. meeting with the new Mayor of Tehran Mohammad Ali Afshani, President Hassan Rouhani said that it is necessary that all organizations and state bodies join hands in serving the nation and speeding up development in the country.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani met with new Mayor of Tehran Mohammad Ali Afshani and described cooperation and coordination among all organizations and civil institutions essential for serving people. He stressed that the government would support Tehran Municipality’s developmental projects.

In the meeting held on Saturday, Mr. Rouhani expressed congratulations to Mr. Afshani on his new responsibility as Tehran's mayor and said, “it is essential that along with systematic efforts to make sustainable earnings in Tehran, more effort be exerted to increase urban standards and improve citizens’ living quality.”

The President also underscored the importance of cooperation on quicker implementation of urban renewal projects, as well as renewal of public transportation.

President Rouhani and Mayor Afshani also discussed other issues, such as public areas, the environment, waste management, rail transportation, protecting gardens and municipality’s financial resources.

Mohammad Ali Afshani was selected as Tehran's mayor following Mohammad Ali Najafi's resignation back in March due to ill health.
