Iranian President, Hassan Rouhani, has said the relocation of the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem-al-Quds is a violation of international law.

Speaking to reporters  before leaving Tehran for Istanbul, Turkey, to attend an extraordinary meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), President Rouhani censured the US move to relocate its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem-al-Quds.

He said the US move goes against international law.  President Rouhani also described the US as the most hated country in the Muslim world.

Speaking at a news conference in Tehran, president Rouhani said: "Iran is always the defender of the Palestinian nation. Iran is always a supporter for the oppressed peoples of the world."

In further remarks, president Rouhani said:  "The Istanbul meeting is an opportunity for the Muslim World.  The aim of the Zionists and the Americans is to distract attention of the Muslim world from the main issue of Palestine to other  trivial issues".
