Iran’s foreign minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, and Uruguayan president, Tabaré V?zquez, have called for more economic cooperation between Tehran and Montevideo.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif held talks with the President of Uruguay, Tabaré Vázquez, in Montevideo on Wednesday.

During the meeting, Zarif hailed the traditional and continuous relations between Iran and Uruguay, and said the ties have always been based on mutual respect.

Given the good grounds for cooperation between the two countries, especially in the economic sector, bilateral cooperation and its diversification must be put on the agenda, Iran’s Foreign Minister noted.

Zarif also highlighted the need for making use of untapped potential for greater cooperation between the two countries.

For his part, Uruguayan president, Vázquez welcomed the expansion of bilateral ties, emphasizing that the economic cooperation between Uruguay and the Islamic Republic of Iran must be strengthened in all areas.

Zarif embarked on a four-nation tour on Sunday, including Senegal, Brazil and Uruguay. His last stop will be Namibia, where he will meet with senior political, economic, and parliamentary officials and exchange views with them.
