Putin: No other way to settle situation surrounding Iran except for JCPOA

The Russian President has said there is no way to settle the situation surrounding Iran except to comply with Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and urged all sides to observe their commitments.

Iran Press/Europe: Addressing the summit of the 'Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia' (CICA) in Tajikistan’s capital of Dushanbe on Saturday, Vladimir Putin said that US withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal had a negative impact on the nuclear non-proliferation situation.

All participants need to comply with the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on Iran’s nuclear program, Putin said, adding: "Everyone is concerned about the situation surrounding the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). We believe that the only reasonable way is for the parties to continue complying with their obligations."

He emphasised that Russia remains committed to implementing the JCPOA according to Interfax.

In 2015, Iran and six major powers (five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council - Russia, the United States, France, the United Kingdom and China - and Germany) agreed on the final Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, which called for lifting of all sanctions imposed on Tehran over its nuclear program.

On May 8, 2018, US President Donald Trump announced Washington’s withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal and reimposed past sanction as well as new ones.

On May 8, 2019, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said that Tehran was reducing its commitments to the JCPOA.  101/211/205
