The head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization (IAEO) Ali Akbar Salehi in Vienna met with IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano on Wednesday to discuss nuclear cooperation as well as IAEA safeguards in relation to JCPOA.

Europe: According to Iran Press, head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi met with IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano on sidelines of the IAEA Ministerial Conference on Nuclear Science and Technology, which kicked off on 28 November in the Austrian capital Vienna and will last until November 30.

During the meeting, the two officials discussed the latest developments relating to bilateral cooperation, including the IAEA safeguards in relation to Iran nuclear deal which is also known as the JCPOA.

Salehi expressed his appreciation to the IAEA's efforts and reports with regard to the JCPOA, emphasizing “Iran expects the Agency to continue its impartial and professional safeguards, away from the influence and malicious goals of ill-wishers who seek to damage Iran’s constructive relations with the Agency.”

Yukiya Amano, in turn, emphasized that in his activities he always considers the principles of professionalism, impartiality and independence, stressing that IAEA only pays attention to facts not claims in its safeguards.

On November 27, the European Union and Iran affirmed their support for promoting peaceful nuclear cooperation within the framework of the international nuclear deal.

"The Islamic Republic could resume enriching uranium to 20 percent purity if it fails to see the economic benefit of the 2015 deal that curbed its nuclear program," head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi noted.

Under the 2015 nuclear agreement, Iran stopped producing 20 percent enriched uranium and gave up the majority of its stockpile.

 

On November 26, during a seminar on peaceful nuclear cooperation between Iran and the European Union in Brussels, Ali Akbar Salehi said, Nuclear safety of our nuclear industry is a priority for us and the latest achievements are therefore of great importance, because they will help to further enhance the safety of the entire fuel cycle.

It is for the first time that the seminar is being held after the US backed out from a multilateral nuclear deal signed in 2015 between Iran and the six world powers. 

On November 25, heading a high-ranking delegation, chief of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi left Tehran for Brussels to attend a high-level seminar on peaceful international nuclear cooperation with the European Union. 103
