Kurdistan's lawmakers voted for Masrour Barzani as Iraqi Kurdistan prime minister.

Iran Press/ Middle East: Masrour Barzani was elected by lawmakers as prime minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and is now tasked with forming the cabinet. 
The Kurdistan Regional Parliament convened on Tuesday to vote for the new prime minister.
The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) nominee, who is the son of former-president Masoud Barzani, secured 87 votes among the 97 MPs who attended the session, Iran Press reported citing the Rudaw TV channel.

Masrour, the former-chancellor of the Kurdistan Region Security Council (KRSC), now has 30 days to form a new government. 
His cousin, Nechirvan Barzani, was sworn-in as president in a ceremony in Erbil on Monday, attended by local and foreign dignitaries.

Formation of the new government has been slow since the Kurdistan Region held its delayed parliamentary election on September 30, 2018. Another round of government formation talks will now commence to allocate government jobs between the region’s major political parties.
