(IP) People of Urmia visited the old people in the city on the International Day of Older Persons

Iran PressIran News: On the occasion of the International Day of Older Persons, the people of Urmia, the capital of Western Azerbaijan province in the northwest of Iran, praised the elderly of their city.

Attending the Urmia's elderly house, the people of the city gave flowers and expressed congratulation to the elderly under the support of the State Welfare Organization of Western Azerbaijan province.

In the ceremony, attended also by the chairman of Western Azerbaijan's State Welfare Organization, Saeed Farivar, a special bus for old persons was unveiled.

The International Day of Older Persons is observed on October 1 each year. On December 14, 1990, the United Nations General Assembly voted to establish October 1 as the International Day of Older Persons as recorded in Resolution 45/106.

The holiday was observed for the first time on October 1, 1991.
