Tehran (IP) - Iran's President called on the Iraqi government and the Kurdistan Region to block the Israeli regime and terrorist groups' abuse of the region's territory against the Islamic Republic's territories.

Iran PressIran news: Leading a high-ranking delegation, the Head of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region arrived in Tehran on Sunday to have meetings with the Iranian authorities. He met with the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Khamenei and Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi. 

Receiving Nechirvan Barzani on Monday, Iran's President Ebrahim Raisi highlighted the brother relations between Iraq and Iran pointed out: "We are sure about the goodwill and friendship of our Iraqi and Kurdish brothers, but considering the given the feud of the enemies, including the Zionist regime, against the Iranian nation, we expect the Iraqi government and the Kurdistan Region to prevent any abuse of the [Iraqi] territory by the Zionist enemy and anti-Revolution elements against Iran."

Raisi appreciated the Iraqi government and the Kurdistan Region for the implementation of the security agreement between the two countries and stressed the complete disarmament of the anti-Iran terrorist groups in Iraq.

Concerning economic relations also the Iranian president said that the country sees no obstacles to having trade ties with the Kurdistan Region, but security is the basis of any cooperation and expansion of interactions.

Nechirvan Barzani, for his part, appreciated ran's support for the Kurd people and the region, stressing: " No common sense allows us to prefer relations with a regime that is in its worst position today over relations with a powerful and friendly country."

The Head of Iraq's Kurdistan Region hailed the role of martyr Lt. Gen. Soleimani in protecting Iraq from the US-backed Daesh (ISIS) terrorist group and told President Rais: 

"The foundation of the new Iraq and today's relations are the result of the blessed cooperation between Iran and Iraq, and therefore Iran is not just a neighbor for us. Were it not for the efforts of the Islamic Revolution and the Islamic Republic, it was not clear what the fate of the Kurdish movement would be today. Respecting these collaborations and interactions is a red line we will never cross."

Barzani said: "We expect Iran to continue to stand with us to solve the problems in Iraq and build a prosperous and advanced country. Our past relations are proud and our efforts are to build a brighter and better future than the past."

Iran did not close its borders to the Iraqi Kurdistan region during the coronavirus pandemic.
