Iranian President said that Iran’s third step to scale down its commitments to the JCPOA will give a special boost to the activities of the country’s nuclear energy organization, with its peaceful civilian nuclear research and development no longer restricted.

Iran Press/Iran news: Speaking to journalists after a meeting of the heads of the three branches of the government on Wednesday, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani ordered third step to further scale back Iran's JCPOA commitments to be implemented on Friday (6 September).

According to Iran Press, n further remarks, President Rouhani expressed satisfaction about the regular and frequent meetings of the heads of the three branches of the government, saying in Wednesday's meeting a range of issues were discussed including the fight against bureaucratic corruption and fraud, establishing a climate of public confidence and trust, and business confidence in the country, regional issues of importance including the third incremental step which Iran is about to take, starting Friday 6 September, to further reduce its commitments to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

President Rouhani praised the Iranian people for their resilience particularly in the last 16 months, since the withdrawal of the United States from the JCPOA, and the start of the Trump administration's economic war against Tehran. He said: "Everyone at the meeting agreed that the Iranian people deserved a better economy, an economy where the manufacturing and production sector was booming and where businesses thrived, where jobs were created, and additionally the Iranian people need to be reassured that all forms of corruption, fraud, bribery, misconduct, lawbreaking, and crime will not be tolerated and will be pursued in courts of law."

Turning to the nuclear issue president Rouhani said the Trump administration has three principal aims, the first one being to bring about "regime change" in Iran. Their second aim is to weaken Iran if they fail to overthrow the Iranian government or bring about regime change. Their third aim is "to negotiate with Iran from a position of power", meaning they want strict sanctions and negotiations at the same time, to give themselves maximum leverage over Iran."

President Hassan Rouhani pointedly added: "The Trump administration has failed in all three objectives, namely regime change, weakening Iran and forcing negotiations upon Tehran. In the end, America will be forced to embrace international law, to heed international conventions and norms, and to re-accept and return to agreements and treaties which they had signed but had later decided to abandon."

Elsewhere in his remarks, Rouhani said: "After the US withdrew from the JCPOA, the remaining parties, 4+1 Group, failed to honour all of their commitments under the agreement, and four months ago we decided to gradually and incrementally reduce our commitments to the agreement, which is what we have done."

"In the first step last May, we reduced some of our commitments under the JCPOA, and we gave a two-month window of opportunity to the European signatories to the JCPOA to fulfil their commitments. The second step was taken in July and we further reduced our commitments to the nuclear deal, and gave another two-month window of opportunity to the Europeans to honour what they had promised as part of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action. The third step which will be taken on Friday (6 September) will further reduce our commitment."
