Catching nine medals, including three gold, at the 16th edition of Asian Karate Federation Seniors Championship in Tashkent on Saturday, Iranian team shined in addition to Japan and host Uzbekistan.

Iran Press/Iran news: Iran male and female karatekas snatched nine medals, including three golds, two silver and four bronze medals at the 16th Asian Karate Federation Seniors Championship in Uzbekistan.

The Iranian team displayed a great performance on day one of the 2019 Asian Karate Federation Senior Championships in Uzbekistan, earning 3 gold, 2 silver, and 4 bronze medals.

In the final of women's kumite -55kg category, Taravat Khaksar defeated Sevinch Rakhimova from Uzbekistan, 6-0 to win the title.

Hamideh Abbasali caught another gold for Iran after defeating Kazakhstan’s Sofya Berultseva 4-2 in the final of women's Kumite +68kg and, the third gold was snatched by Zabiollah Poorshab in -84kg men's Kumite where he gained 1-0 victory over Jordan’s Mahmoud Sajan in the final bout.

In the women’s kumite, Taravat Khaksar and Hamideh Abbasali bagged two more golds for Iran in the minus 55-kg and the plus 68-kg categories respectively.

All 11 gold medal matches are scheduled for tomorrow.

Sajjad Ganjzadeh (male kumite +84kg), Bahman Asgari (male kumite -75kg), Fatemeh Sadeghi (female Kata) and Iran male team kata (comprising Farazmehr, Shahrjerdi, Zand) gained bronze medals for Iran.

This year's edition of the AKF Senior Championship is the 16th, with the first having been held in Taiwan's capital Taipei in 1993.

340 karate practitioners from 33 Asian countries are participating in this year's Asian Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, from July 15 to 21.
