An Iranian merchant ship carrying 153 containerized cargo ships sank in one of the harbors of Shahid Rajaee port of Bandar Abbas.

Iran Press/Iran news: An Iranian merchant ship drowned one hour ago at one of the harbors of Shahid Rajaee port of Bandar Abbas.

Port and Maritime Organization's Maritime Deputy Hadi Haghshenas told IRINN that Between 9 am and 10 am local time, a ship with 153 containers capsized during discharge and loading and the containers were thrown into water.

Shahid Rajaee Port in the southern Hormozgan Province is Iran's Largest Container Port and more than 70 million tons of cargo are being loaded and unloaded in Shahid Rajaee Port each year, Iran Press reported.

The public relations department of the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development announced that the ship was uploading its last containers when lost its balance and sank. Several crew also fell into the sea during the incident but are all in good health and only one was injured.

Officials said the incident is under investigation. 213/103
