Nigerian court decides Sheikh Zakzaky’s bail today

The police in Kaduna on Sunday said that they had beefed up security ahead of today’s ruling of the application filed by the embattled leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria.

Iran Press/Africa: Justice Darius Khobo of the Kaduna State High Court in Nigeria will rule on the application filed by Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky, who is seeking permission to travel abroad for medical treatment, Punch reported.

The bail hearing comes barely three days after a Federal High Court in Abuja granted the Federal Government the power to proscribe the Shia organisation.

A recent court order allows the African country's government to label the Islamic Movement in Nigeria as a 'terrorist' organization, as supporters of the movement's leader Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky staged protests outside the Nigerian embassy in the British capital of London ahead of his appearance in court.

Meanwhile, the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, has described the Abuja High Court order proscribing its activities and tagging it as a terrorist group, as a 'huge joke.'

Sheikh Zakzaky has been held in detention since December 2015, when the army killed hundreds of his followers at his compound and a nearby mosque and burial ground in northern Kaduna state.   207/211/209
