Tehran (IP) - The Cultural Institute of ECO (Economic Cooperation Organization) celebrated the Iranian Glorious Yalda Night on Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2022.

Iran PressIran News: Also, the Public Diplomacy Center of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Afghan Embassy in Tehran, and the Iranian Association of Cultural Works and Honors cooperated to celebrate the event.

Murodjon Buriboev, President of ECO Cultural Institute, and the ambassadors of Afghanistan and Tajikistan, took part in the event.

The ceremony is aimed at introducing Yalda Night and its ceremonial deeds to the attendees.

Reciting poems of the Iranian poet Hafez was one of the main parts of the Yalda Night occasion.

A nocturnal celebration that is observed on the eve of the first day of winter in Iran is called Yalda, or Shab-e-Chelle.

The Economic Cooperation Organization or ECO is an Asian political and economic intergovernmental organization that was founded in Tehran in 1985 by the leaders of Iran, Pakistan, and Türkiye.

Yalda Night is officially registered by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, UNESCO, as a cultural heritage shared by Iran and Afghanistan.

Yalda Night conveys peace, friendship

The President of ECO Cultural Institute stressed that Yalda Night conveys the message of friendship and peace and kindness among the member states.

Murodjon Buriboev stressed that these non-tangible ceremonies act like a bridge, connecting the countries to the past

He said: "We are blessed with new hope and great success as we celebrate this auspicious day."

He added: "Yalda marks the end of autumn, so we celebrate the last night of autumn as the renewal of the sun and the victory of light over darkness."

Yalda is more than 7000 years old and it is not just celebrated in Iran or Afghanistan but in other countries as well, like Caucasus and Tajikistan and others do so.

The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesman Naser Kanani's message was also read: "Yalda strengthens the common identity which leads to common interests and common interests strength the interaction, and cooperation."

The message read: "Due to the traditional functions of ceremonies, Yalda can provide the basis for tourism among the [ECO] members and institutionalize kindness."
