Tehran (IP) - Iranian foreign ministry spokesman on Monday told that the reason behind the European satellite provider Eutelsat's action for removing the Iranian PRESS TV News Channell from the air is only politically motivated.

Iran PressIran news: The French satellite service provider company, Eutelsat cut the Iranian PRESS TV network off the air after the European Union imposed sanctions on Iranian media and officials under the pretext of supporting human rights in Iran.

The European Union has recently sanctioned Press TV and Iranian individuals and organizations under the pretext of supporting democracy.

In response to the question of Iran Press regarding the interruption of access to the PRESS TV network through Eutelsat, the spokesperson of the foreign ministry said: "The PRESS TV network, as the only and important international Iranian English language News Network, has been sanctioned and limited many times in various ways and they did not allow this network to free operation.

Naser Kanaani went on to say that the free circulation of information is a western slogan that we hear repeatedly, while the best conditions are provided for the networks that promote terrorist groups, restrictive measures, and sanctions imposed on PRESS TV and its managers.

Their behavior is contrary to their slogan of freedom of speech, he added.

In terms of media policy, PRESS TV has acted transparently and by international law and regulations, but Eutelsat's action was carried out with political motivation and prevented the voice of the Iranian nation to be heard.

This action is against international regulations, Kanaani pointed out.

Last week the Spokesman of Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in his latest tweet, reacted to the removal of PRESS TV from Eutelsat, saying that move against PRESS TV shows the true face of the false claimants of freedom of expression and free flow of information.
