The appointments, announced in separate decrees, affect several of Iran’s most senior military posts, including the chief of staff of the armed forces, the deputy chief of staff and the commander of the IRGC and its naval and Basij forces.
Major General Ali Abdollahi was appointed chief of staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, while Brigadier General Kiumars Heidari was named deputy chief of staff.
Major General Ahmad Vahidi was appointed commander in chief of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps. Major General Mostafa Izadi was named deputy commander of the Guards.
The Leader also appointed Rear Admiral Ali Ozamaei as commander of the IRGC Navy and Hossein Taeb as head of the IRGC’s Basij Organization, a nationwide volunteer force.
The appointments place new commanders at the helm of several of Iran’s principal defense institutions.
