Theran (IP) - In a telephone conversation with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, the Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the operation of the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran against the military positions of the aggressor Israeli regime was within the framework of legitimate defense doctrine and international law.

In this phone conversation, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian stated: "Due to the inefficiency of the UN Security Council in condemning the Israeli regime's attack on the Iranian embassy in Damascus, as a result, the only option left before Iran was legitimate self-defense and punishment of the Zionist regime."

Amir-Abdollhian said: "Although the Islamic Republic of Iran was able to carry out this operation in a wider radius, it only targeted that part of the military positions of the Zionist regime from where the attack on Tehran's embassy in Damascus had taken place."

Iran's top diplomat added: "The security of the region is essential to us, but the Zionist regime has been massacring and genociding defenseless children and women in Gaza for six months, and the US and its allies will not stop it. Amir-Abdollhian asked if 6 months of war, crimes and genocide of Israel were not enough and when the international community act to end this genocide and crimes.

In this telephone conversation, the Secretary General of the United Nations, referring to the operation of the Islamic Republic of Iran against the Israeli regime, called for continued restraint from the parties involved in the regional conflicts.

António Guterres emphasized: "Yesterday and once again, I condemned any attack on diplomatic places and stressed that diplomatic places should have immunity."

Expressing his satisfaction with the position of the Islamic Republic of Iran to stop further operations against the Zionist regime, he said: "We also urge Israel not to retaliate to reduce tensions in the region in favor of establishing peace."

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched a retaliatory strike on multiple locations in Israel in response to an Israeli terrorist attack on the Iranian embassy in Damascus, Syria on 1 April 2024.
