Zarif: Human error at time of crisis led to disaster

Tehran (IP) - Iranian Foreign Minister said that the preliminary conclusions of the internal investigation by Armed Forces show that human error at a time of extraordinary high tension caused by earlier US attack and possibility of US attack led to disaster.

Iran Press/Iran news: "A sad day. Preliminary conclusions of the internal investigation by Armed Forces show that human error at a time of crisis caused by US adventurism led to disaster," said Mohammad Javad Zarif in a tweet on Saturday.

"Our profound regrets, apologies, and condolences to our people, to the families of all victims, and to other affected nations," he added.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran said in a statement on Saturday that the Ukrainian passenger plane which crashed was targeted unintentionally in a tragic accident due to human error.

After the statement, the Iranian President Hassan Rouhani pledged to identify and prosecute all involved in an unintentional shootdown of the Ukrainian plane over Tehran.

The plane belonging to Ukrainian airlines crashed near Tehran minutes after the take-off from Imam Khomeini Airport. All the 167 passengers and 9 crew members were killed in the crash.
