As Eid al-Adha marked in Jammu and Kashmir state on Wednesday, clashes erupted between Indian security forces and Muslims in Srinagar.

 Iran Press/Asia:The protesters responded to security forces' suppression by hurling stones at the forces in Srinagar’s Eidgah area and the police shot teargas at them, according to Times of India.

Similar protests occurred in Anantnag, Sopore and Kupwara towns.

The police said a youth sustained a pellet injury in his right eye and was being treated at a hospital in Anantnag town.

Kashmir has been divided between India and Pakistan since 1947.

The mountainous region has a long history of conflict and is one of the most heavily militarised places on Earth.

Despite a ceasefire agreement that was reached between India and Pakistan in November 2003, sporadic skirmishes continue in Kashmir.

Armed battles between Indian forces and militants over the years have killed nearly 70,000 people, mostly civilians.
