The 9th transport summit of Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) was officially inaugurated in Turkmenistan on Thursday.

Iran's minister of roads and urbanization, Abbas Akhoundi, heading a high-ranking delegation, is participating in the summit which is being held in the tourist  resort of  Avaza. He is due to  address the summit today, Thursday.

Some 20 delegations from the member countries are attending the forum.ECO is a Eurasian political and economic intergovernmental organization which was founded in 1985 in Tehran by the leaders of Iran, Pakistan and Turkey. Currently, 10 countries: Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Iran are members of ECO.

 Exploring the implementation of previous agreements among transport ministers of ECO  countries, suggesting initiatives on boosting cooperation on air, road and maritime transportation among countries of the region, as well as making decisions on regulations and tariffs are among the main topics to be discussed at the ECO transportation summit.
