The Economic Cooperation Organization at the 23rd Meeting of Council of Ministers (COM) in a joint statement supported Iran’s membership of the World Trade Organization (WTO). .

The Economic Cooperation Organization at the 23rd Meeting of Council of Ministers (COM) in a joint statement supported Iran’s bid to become a member of  World Trade Organization (WTO) and condemned efforts by certain  non-regional countries to impede this process.

During the meeting, the participating ministers adopted the necessary decisions for implementing ECO agreements aimed at regional development, and consequently, improvement of people’s lives, in a way that they would feel the concrete and tangible results of ECO economic cooperation in their daily lives.  

A number of decisions were also taken which called for ECO's more effective participation in the reconstruction process in Afghanistan, including the design of a proper mechanism to make the ECO Special Support Fund more efficient for the reconstruction process.

The 23rd Meeting of Council of Ministers (COM), as the highest policy and decision-making body of ECO, was convened in Dushanbe, Tajikisitan's capital, on Tuesday, attended by foreign ministers of Iran, Afghanistan, Republic of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and the host country.

The Islamic Republic of Iran also took over the rotating presidency of ECO , for a three-year term from 2018 to 2020.

ECO , an inter-governmental organization, established in 1985, has ten member-states, namely the Islamic Republic of Iran, Republic of Azerbaijan, Turkey, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.
