EU to work with Iran\\\'s Zarif despite US sanctions

The European Union said it would ignore the US sanctions imposed on Iran's Foreign Minister and vowed to continue working with him.

Iran Press/Europe: Carlos Martin Ruiz, spokesman for EU diplomatic chief Federica Mogherini announced in a statement on Thursday that the EU regretted the US decision to impose sanctions against Iran's foreign minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, adding that "From our side, we will continue to work with Zarif as Iran's most senior diplomat and in view of the importance of maintaining diplomatic channels."

Moreover, France and Germany on Thursday voiced concern over a US move to impose sanctions on Iran’s foreign minister, saying that they disagreed with the decision.

“We consider that all diplomatic channels should stay open, particularly in a context of high tensions”, the French Foreign Minister said.

The German Foreign Minister also said in a statement that US sanctions on Iran's foreign minister were a violation of diplomatic solutions; declaring that the German, French and British foreign ministers are in regular contact with "Mohammad Javad Zarif" and will continue to do so.

The United States on Wednesday imposed sanctions on Zarif, targeting the country’s top spox and potentially hurting chances of diplomatic talks amid rising tensions between the two countries. 104/218
