French firefighters are to strike for over two months in protest at their pay and working conditions.

Iran Press/Europe: According to a report by France 24 TV channel, seven of France's professional firefighting unions, covering 85 percent of all firefighters in France, are threatening  to go on strike from Wednesday 26 June through to 31 August.

It's a very rare and lengthy two-month strike by French firefighters in protest at poor pay and bad working conditions.

Since 2008 up to 2017 the firefighters workload in France has increase by 15%, while in this same period, the number of staff has decreased by 1 percent. Increasing workload and stagnant pay has cause increasing dissatisfaction among the majority of 40000 professional French firefighters.

The seven unions of professional firefighters are demanding wage increases, as well as better working conditions and hiring of more staff.

Although the strike is expected to last until 31 August, the firefighters have been forced to provide a minimal service, and skeleton staff during the strike period.

They want to write on their uniforms the phrase 'on strike', and they plan to demonstrate in Paris in September.  101/211
