Iran’s top diplomat said that the US withdrawal from JCPOA described the country's irresponsible policy, saying that the catastrophic process and irresponsible US policies should be stopped.

Iran PressAmerica: Speaking in the High-Level Plenary Meeting to commemorate and promote the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons in New York, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, Gholam Hossein Dehghani, said that the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty is especially important in the Middle East, where nuclear weapons belonging to one State jeopardize the creation of a nuclear-weapon-free zone. 

"Israel must be compelled to join the Treaty" he added, stressing that a nuclear-weapon-free world is long overdue, Iran Press reported.

He called the new round of the nuclear arms race and the modernization of nuclear weapons a worrying threat to human survival and continued: "The United States' withdrawal from the JCPOA Treaty is another example of its irresponsible policies that promote international peace and security weakens."

"The US withdrawal from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty has exacerbated the deterioration of the situation," he said.

Underscoring that this catastrophic process and irresponsible US policies must be halted, the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran emphasized: "No one should possess nuclear weapons, and before they can destroy us, we must to destroy them."

Dehghani pointed to Iran's readiness to work with all parties to completely abolish nuclear weapons, saying that Iran is urging all nations to take every opportunity to fulfill this collective responsibility.

In another meeting on climate change held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly summit, Dehghani called US illegal sanctions an obstacle for the Iranian government to take radical action against climate change.

"Despite all the efforts made at national, regional and international levels, there is a need for greater balance in the actions envisaged in various international agreements, in particular, the Climate Change Framework Convention and the Paris Agreement," he said. 101/216
