Iran's parliament speaker said that the Iranian Foreign Minister was sanctioned because of his role in revealing the wrong path pursued by the US.

Iran Press/Iran news: Iran's parliament speaker Ali Larijani made the remarks Tuesday in a ceremony marking the 'Reporter Day', which was held in the parliament.

Referring to the hard work and efforts made by the country’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in expanding relations with the other countries, Larijani said: "Zarif was sanctioned because of his major role in revealing the wrong path pursued by the US and we should confront the enemy’s schemes."

Pointing to the enemy’s goals, he noted: "They are pursuing two goals, first one is to seek economic pressure within Iran to increase the dissatisfaction among the Iranian people, and the second one is to spread the sense of distrust to the government among the people in a national level."

"Due to the special conditions in which the country is engaged in, all should be united in paying attention to the country's issues and share understanding," added the parliament speaker.

Larijani emphasized that so far, the enemies of the Islamic Republic of Iran have failed to achieve their sinister goal, so they are implementing their second phase of action to stop Iran's economic development.

He further stressed that the US government has illusions and the enemies of the Islamic Republic of Iran have failed to achieve their sinister goal, adding, "Concerning Iran’s oil exports, they said that we will bring Iran's oil sales to zero and have been using their influence on other countries to heighten economic pressures on Iran, but they have failed to do so."

On Aug. 01, the US administration has imposed sanctions on Iran's foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, in the latest effort by Washington to ratchet up its 'maximum pressure' campaign against Tehran.
