Tehran (IP) - The Iranian government spokesman has emphasised that America's sanctioning of Foreign Minister Mohamad Javad Zarif is in effect an attack on the entire Iranian Nation State.

Iran Press/Iran news: Ali Rabiei  also warned that US move is against all diplomatic norms around the world, reported Iran Press. Rabiei's remarks were made during his weekly press conference in Tehran on Sunday.

In further remarks, the spokesman Ali Rabiei welcomed the fact that the international community, by and large, including the European Union, Russia, China, and many other countries have forthrightly rejected this US move, saying the sanctioning of Zarif by the Trump White House is wrong, misguided, unhelpful and unjustified.

Commenting further Rabiei said: "The world has not accepted the sanctioning of  Zarif. The US wants to suggest that Iran does not have a united government, nation and representative. But the aggressive US policy is so clumsy that it has increased the unity and cohesion between civil society and the Iranian government. The Iranian people and government are united."

The government spokesman added: "At the present time, Iran's civil society is on the frontline of fighting America's bullying. The US claims against Iran are against all diplomatic norms in the world and the sanctioning of the Foreign Minister of a country is something unprecedented in the history of international diplomacy. It is totally unacceptable, and the international community has not accepted the sanctioning of Foreign Minister Zarif."

Elsewhere in his remarks, Ali Rabiei highlighted inherent inconsistencies and lack of logic in US foreign policy by saying: "Inviting Iran to the negotiating table, and then slapping sanctions on the chief Iranian diplomat, and Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, is senseless and ludicrous."

The government spokesman stressed: "Adding Foreign Minister Mohamad Javad Zarif's name to the list of persons sanctioned by Washington shows that US politicians are worried about Zarif's effective diplomacy."

Rabiei added: America's campaign against Zarif is somewhat personal, and shows the Trump administration has been rattled and upset by Iran's diplomacy and logic.

"From Iran's point of view, Zarif is the one responsible for the Islamic Republic's foreign policy, general diplomacy and security diplomacy. The road to diplomacy passes through the Zarif channel and putting his name on the list of individuals sanctioned means the US is depriving itself of negotiations and diplomacy", Rabiei contuined.

He went on to say: "Despite America's claims, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution and the political system of the country trusts Zarif. Being supported by Iran's army, IRGC and the Leader shows the country's unity.  Sanctioning Zarif is a testament to US failure in diplomacy and the Leader's support from Zarif is a sign of White House misguided analysis of the internal Iranian situation."
