UK tanker threatens safety of shipping in Strait of Hormuz: Iran

Informed sources at the Iran's Ports and Maritime Organization said that the British tanker "Stenaimpero" has threatened the safety of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz by failing to abide by international maritime law and regulations in the waterway.

Iran Press/Iran news "Unlike international rules, the oil tanker has entered the Strait of Hormuz from the exit route and did not pay attention to any alerts, shutting down the Automatic Identification System (AIS) navigation system that is a dangerous action," said a source who did not want to be named.

The official said the ship also contributed to the pollution of the Persian Gulf as a closed maritime zone by discharging its oil waste from its tanks.

"In accordance with its legal duties, the Iranian Ports and Maritime Organization requested IRGC Navy to confiscate and direct the tanker to the port for further investigation," the source added.
