Iran Press- The first set of U.S. sanctions against Iran that had been eased under the landmark nuclear accord went back into effect early Tuesday under an executive order signed by President Donald Trump, targeting financial transactions that involve U.S. dollars, Iran’s automotive sector, the purchase of commercial planes and metals including gold.
U.S sanctions targeting Iran’s oil sector and central bank are to be reimposed in early November, according to an AFP report.
The stiff economic sanctions ratchet up pressure on the Islamic Republic despite statements of deep dismay from European allies, three months after Trump pulled the U.S. out of the international accord limiting Iran’s nuclear activities.
Trump declared the landmark 2015 agreement had been “horrible,” leaving the Iranian government flush with cash to fuel conflict in the Middle East.
Meanwhile, President Rouhani's warnings to his American counterpart, Donald Trump, live on Iranian television on Monday night, have been the focus of mainstream media attention around the world.
Rouhani said: “Negotiation at the same time with sanctions is meaningless and these sanctions are targeting Iranian children and people”.
According to Official Iranian Presidency site, speaking on Monday night, Hassan Rouhani answered a question about the United States’ stances towards Iran, including their suggestions for negotiation, saying: “US officials make contradictory remarks”.
Stating that Iranians are aware of US officials’ and their own officials’ behaviour regarding negotiations, he said: “Those who are in office in Iran today have been working with the motto of interaction, negotiation and the negotiation table since the start and they have even negotiated with Americans and others”.
“We negotiated for two years and reached an agreement that the Americans were more or less living up to; others were committed to it, and Iran completely lived up to its commitments,” added the President.
Negotiation has basics, said Rouhani adding: “If somebody claims that they are willing to negotiate, they have to observe the basics, the first one of which is honesty that the two sides must believe in, as well as reaching a conclusion”.
US President Donald Trump has said that the European allies and the Congress have to work with him to fix “the disastrous flaws” in the nuclear pact or face a US exit.Trump is after changing the text of the international nuclear accord. Iran has repeatedly stressed that the JCPOA is not renegotiable.
US President Donald Trump announced on May 8 that Washington was walking away from the nuclear agreement.
