Iran Press/ America: Majid Takht-e Ravanchi, Iran's permanent envoy to the United Nations, welcomed the end of the domination of a limited group of countries over cyberspace.
He praised the formation of the UN working group on "Developments in the Field of Information and Telecommunications in the Context of International Security" and said and supported the "Open-ended Working Group" as a transparent and inclusive process.
Recalling that the Islamic Republic of Iran has been the victim of increasing cyber-attacks such as Stuxnet by the United States and the Israeli regime, Takht-e Ravanchi called the "Open-ended Working Group" an excellent place to investigate these illegal actions and stated that any use of force in cyberspace is rejected.
The first content meeting of the "Open-ended Working Group on Developments in the Field of Information and Telecommunications in the Context of International Security", chaired by Singapore's Permanent Representative to the United Nations and attended by representatives of member states, began yesterday (Monday) at the UN Secretariat in New York.
In December 2018, the General Assembly established two processes to discuss the issue of security in the information and communication technology (ICT)-environment between 2019 and 2021.
Resolution 73/27 established an "Open-Ended Working Group" (OEWG), which will comprise the entire UN membership.
The group convened for the first time in 2019 and completed its work in March 2021.
