Israeli military bases have been stationed amid the so-called civil areas of the occupied territories, a new plan of playing histrionics, as Iranian missiles hit the bases.

Why it matters:

By adopting the strategy, the Israeli regime seems to represent itself as a victim while struggling to suggest that Iran's precision-guided missiles have targeted residential areas.

What we're reading:

Haaretz: "The Iranians might have only partly targeted military installations, but in Israel many bases are in the heart of population centers, with the prime example being in Kirya, the IDF headquarters, in Tel Aviv."

Societal Militarization and Settlement Policies
Israel’s security doctrine and societal structure seems to make no difference between civilian and military spheres:

  • Militarized Society: Israel operates a conscription-based military, with almost all citizens serving in the IOF, one way or another. This integration of civilian and military life means that military facilities, personnel, and operations are often intertwined with civilian society.

  • Settlement Enterprise: In the occupied territories, such as the West Bank, Israel’s settlement policies involve placing military outposts near the so-called civilian communities, which critics note serves to expand territorial control while using settlers as a buffer in conflict zones.
  • Cultural Perception: The IOF is viewed as a “armed population,” with bases like HaKirya symbolizing a weaponized community rather than isolated military zones. This cultural acceptance may reduce domestic opposition to bases in so-called urban areas.

State of Play:

Iran’s response to U.S.-Israeli imposed war has triggered a mass exodus of Israelis. Tens of thousands of Israelis, particularly those with dual citizenship, are frantically trying to escape. Estimates suggest that over 1.2 million Israeli militants with dual citizenship from Western countries residing in Israel.

  • U.S., Canada, France, Germany, and the U.K. have evacuated thousands of their attaches through various means, including “rescue flights,” “escape boats,” and land borders with Egypt and Jordan.

Contex:

During the 12-day Israeli imposed war on Iran, 627 Iranian people have so far been killed with the total number of the injured standing at 4,935.

  • The number of injured and killed healthcare staff has increased to 26 (20 injured and 6 killed).

Go deeper:

The Iranian missiles and drones landed on Haifa, Tel Aviv, Isdud, Asqalan, and other part of the militarized Israel, just as the Lebanese Hezbollah targeted the Kirya. Yet, the Israeli regime tries to play the victim role to suggest that Iran's self-operations were carried out against civilians.
