Officials, diplomats, and academics in Kazakhstan expressed sympathy with Iran and condemned the recent Israeli aggression against Iran by signing a memorial book at Iran’s Consulate in Almaty.

Why it matters:

The international outpouring of support—especially from Central Asian states—demonstrates a growing diplomatic and cultural alignment with Iran.

What she's saying:

Sona Ahmadi, the Consul General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Almaty: "In response to the aggression and crimes of the occupying regime against our Islamic homeland, Iranian missions worldwide opened memorial notes where diplomatic, cultural, and academic figures condemned the attack through their presence and signatures."

The big picture:

Diplomats from Russia, China, Turkey, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan, along with a representative from Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, signed the book and offered their condolences. Leaders of scientific and cultural institutions, including the President of the Academy of Sciences, the Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies at Al-Farabi University, Iranian studies professors, the Director of the National Library, and the Head of the Museum of Ethnography, also participated in the tribute.

Go deeper:

The condemnation from Kazakh diplomats and intellectuals is part of a broader pattern of international disapproval of the Israeli regime’s recent military aggression against Iran. As global outrage builds over the use of force and the targeting of Iranian military commanders, countries across Asia, Africa, and Latin America are increasingly vocal in their opposition.
