Cybercrime, child suicides in Japan hit record high in 2022

The number of cybercrimes uncovered by police in Japan hit a record high in 2022, rising 160 to 12,369 cases, with notable growth in reports of ransomware attacks. In the meantime, a record 514 children attending elementary, junior high and high schools in Japan died by suicide in 2022, topping the previous high of 499 seen in 2020, government data showed, with the upward trend apparently fueled by the coronavirus pandemic.
