Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyyed Abbas Mousavi

Tehran (IP) - Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman criticized the Bahraini government's irresponsible behavior towards its nationals who are in Iran.

Iran Press/Iran news: Seyyed Abbas Mousavi, on Wednesday, referred to the Foreign Ministry’s measures for returning the foreign nationals to their homelands within the framework of precautionary measures against the coronavirus, saying: “Although many countries of the region have cooperated with our officials to return their nationals [who are in Iran], the Bahraini government, despite the readiness of the Iranian Foreign Ministry to cooperate, has not taken any action to repatriate its citizens and has also rejected suggestions from some [other countries].”

He called the behavior of the Bahraini government towards its citizens as irresponsible and said: “Currently about 1300 Bahraini citizens, who have traveled to Iran for pilgrimage and tourism, have been forced to reside in Iran for long and unwanted accommodation due to the Bahraini government's inappropriate handling of their situation.”

Mousavi also emphasized the Islamic Republic of Iran's commitment to addressing the situation of Bahraini citizens within the framework of humanitarian behavior and voiced the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ readiness to cooperate with Bahrain to return these individuals to their country.

He concluded that the Bahraini government will be held accountable for any delay in this regard.

The coronavirus outbreak began in December 2019 in Wuhan, China, and appears to have been originated from non-domesticated animals. Chinese officials now admit that the virus probably spread in Wuhan in November or even earlier.

More than 3,100 people have died and over 93,000 have been infected worldwide. The vast majority of cases are in China.

The head of the World Health Organization's mission to Iran believes that Iranians behave in a powerful, effective and efficient manner in managing various crises and can overcome the coronavirus crisis.

Iran's Health Ministry Spokesman Kianoush Jahanpour in his daily news conference on Wednesday told to the reporters that 552 people of 2922 people, who have infected with the virus in Iran, have recovered from COVID-19 disease.
